Wheelbuilding
Wheels are probably the most beautiful component of a bicycle. It’s an amazing thing that spokes so small, working together at constant high tension, can create a wheel that’ll stand up to the rigors of riding.
The first wheel I ever built was in 2010, while working at the Old Spokes Home in Burlington, Vermont. It was a truly satisfying job, and in the years since wheelbuilding has become one of my favorite jobs as a bike mechanic. It's a nuanced and meditative task, and for me there’s nothing quite like taking a newly built wheel in your hands and giving it a good spin.
Over the years I have built hundreds of wheels, including a stint at BTI’s Wheel Factory, and have enjoyed honing my skills along the way. In 2019 a set I built found their way onto the podium at the Downieville Classic mountain bike race.
If you’ve got a wheel project in mind, I’d very much look forward to working with you!
